Within the frame of the Cesa Project, entitled Lepidoptera of South Africa (LZA), synonymous list of the species hitherto recorded in South Africa has been arranged and mostly revised by the authors for this publication by using the information of the Databank of the Cesa. Below, totally 7527 valid species are listed alphabetically under the related families. Synonymous names are also added to each species in chronological order. Nomenclaturally unavailable names marked with #. Recent publications of the new scientific names by the authors are also added as footnotes.
